Anyone know about AVRO LANCASTERS?

I was only small when my dad worked at the Avro factory, now Leeds Airport. He told me a story I have often wondered about. He said that planes that had been ped as sound crashed on delivery because the pilot couldn't reach the pedals needed for some part of the touch-down. It wasn't needed for take-off so it was a mystery for some time and of course it didn't affect the Pilots with longer legs. Was he having me on ?
