College advise, please?????

Me and my boyfriend are both looking for colleges to attend. He wants to become an engineer, and im thinking more of psychology/philosophy. We were looking at SUNY potsdam for me, and Clarkson University for him. They're in the same town, but we couldn't room together, and there's no way we could live in an apartment, too expensive. I would hate clarkson because i want to go to a big school, and SUNY is 30k cheaper a year. Please help me; i have no idea what to do.
