Will this school let me in?

What will happen in your situation depends on several things. I suspect that you "signed up" at a private school, not a public college. That matters. At a private school, you are actually signing a contract which contains a promise to pay. At a public college, you register for cles, but if you do not "complete registration" by paying and showing up for cl, your registration is automatically canceled, you owe nothing, and your space in the cl is given to someone else. Since it appears that you did, indeed, sign a contract with a private school, you could have some problems. Because the school has already sent the matter to a collection agency, you will have a couple of choices. The first one to consider is talking to a lawyer. Evaluate the cost of dealing with a lawyer at $250 per hour of billed time versus paying the school what they say you owe them. If the lawyer will be cheaper, then that's the way to go. Your second alternative is to visit the school itself and talk personally with the financial officer there. You will not have the authority or "fear factor" of a lawyer talking to them, but it will be a lot cheaper. Discuss the matter and ask what your options are. Will they be willing to cancel the cost given your health issues? Will they accept a reduced payment? The final option is simply to pay the bill and end the matter. Obviously you do not want to attend an institution which doesn't make clear what you are getting into when you sign up, so it really doesn't matter if they will accept you back or not. You would probably be better off somewhere else anyway. When your health improves and you are able to deal with school again, you would probably be wise to attend a public institution rather than a private school.
